It may not be Biblical but it's flooding us out....

Day 42
So we left Biloxi in cold rain and a wind from the north expected to build to 25-30 mph by later today. The bad news is that we have to go north to get back on route, then we'll have a cross wind till we eventually turn south to the island.
I waited a bit to leave while watching the radar but since Biloxi was in a hole in the rain bands it wouldn't help to wait. I did not feel good today. The first day I just felt completely without energy. It wasn't a hard ride at all. It was a long day at 82 miles but I was wiped just 20 in. Odd. Maybe because this was our tenth day riding with no rest day. In any case, I had a bad day just working pretty hard for no speed at all. I was COLD, WET and TIRED.. It just wasn't a fun day for me.
I DID tho have a great cinnamon roll and cafe au lait at the little bakery/coffee shop en-route.

Oh, and welcome to Alabama! Our seventh state. We will be in Florida day after tomorrow (Sunday-Easter).

At our second SAG stop we heard rumors that the campground on Dauphin Island was also now flooded from the rains but were then told it was OK..... T'was news a bit disheartening to hear when you're having a bad day on the bike.

I did have one nice highlight today and that was riding over the Dauphin Island causeway bridge with a 25+ mph tailwind! It was quite fun riding up a steep, high bridge and my speed not dropping below 20 mph till a few yards form the very top! Rode into camp which was damned near underwater... but the rain is over for a moment and expected to clear for our rest day tomorrow here on the Island...

As you will see from the pics below, we got a first hand look at why we didn't stay in Vancleave. I'm pretty sure I should stop whining so much about my ride when I think of the folks going through the flooding here.....

a stop on the cycling shoe migration route I think
It looks like the pictures are a bit messed up. Because the campground's Wi-Fi was taken out in the rainstorm/flood, I am updating thru my phone's 3G and even that is a sporadic connection. I'll fix/replace them when I have better connectivity...
